At Rochester Shoe Tree Company, green has always been our way of thinking.
Our most prized possession at Rochester Shoe Tree is the fine quality wood that we process to make our shoe trees, hangers and cedar accessories. We value each and every piece that we handle and as such leave none to waste!
We bring in our aromatic cedar green – read that as “fresh from the forest.” We then carefully separate the wood by size and kiln dry it here on sight. This ensures we get the perfect amount of moisture in our cedar. If the wood is too dry, the fragrance isn’t as abundant. If the wood is too wet, the natural cedar oils will seep out too quickly. We aim for furniture grade dryness in our process.
As we take our lumber and create the beautiful products sold on this web site, we end up with byproducts: cedar chips and sawdust. This does not go to waste, we burn these byproducts and generate steam. The steam is then used in the manufacturing process of our shoe care products and to create heat to dry our wood. See – full cycle.
Rochester was proudly green in it’s processes long before it became fashionable.
